Thrifting Extravaganza, Carl's Jr., Cowboy Boots and Thai Food

Our adventure began at 8:00 am on Saturday with a sleepy but excited MM and an always happy Princess.
\
This is MM's face when he is excited to be the first person in the Goodwill. We had to stand outside the door and wait for the woman to open it at precisely 9:02. Being not so patient of a waiter, those 2 minutes were killer for MM.

MM making his first purchase of the day, a black Hurley shirt.

Its tradition. Everytime we visit Savers the Thrift Department store, we try on the vests.

And oversized shirt dresses. After this thrift store, I heard MM say words that I didn't even know could come out of his mouth. "I think I'm all thrifted out."

Since this Saturday was the day of a million dreams for MM, we hunted high and low for the only place that could cure his craving for a Western Bacon Cheeseburger, Carl's Jr. There are only 3 locations on Oahu and this particular one is located in a gas station convenience store. As MM so appropriately put it, "everything in one location, it's a dream come true!" And MM even likes fry sauce :)

After CJ, we went to Costco and WalMart and I made Mike come to Tutti Frutti which is my favorite yogurt place. Original tart and pomagranate yogurt with raspberries, mochi and MM's special addition, brownie bites. Yum.

I debuted my new cowboy boots when we went to have the best Thai food ever at Haliewa Eats.

An awful picture of us, in our cowboy boots. And MM's adorable new pink shirt.

The group, minus Kenz who was taking the picture. DHall, MM, Me, Pocahontas and Stavi

So You Think You Can Sing....

Think being the key word, because they could NOT sing

Luckily for us, nothing rains our parade. We came way too early but prepared with ice cream and treats.

One of the contestants felt the need to perform with sunglasses, so I thought I needed to put mine on as well.

Me and Kenz. We weren't too thrilled by the end.

If you would like to see

something very entertaining, check out this post on Pocahontas' blog. It is a rap about ME! And I love it.

A little update...

In order to fully participate in this update, you need to read this post about "Bekah's Boyfriend."

We have been to TB a few times this semester. And we haven't seen Andre. So when Mickenzie and I selected TB for a lunch date, we figured we were safe. Boy were we wrong.

Andre is still there in his full glory. He kept telling Kenz "I feel like I know you. I know your name. It's Alexandra."

And I told you he had a dagger tattoo on his forearm.

I am the best Nanny EVER!

The random facts:

1)These are my favorite kids in the world. Even on days like this.

2) The distance from their house to Walmart is less than a mile and takes less than 10 minutes to walk. You can see it from their street.

3) Apparently it is now proven that Swedish Fish can cure blindness

I have the luckiest jobs in the world. One morning this summer, I went to my nanny job. I watch three kids: Chris, Michael and Abby. It started as a normal morning at work. I didn’t know this would end up being the day I found out that I am the worst nanny ever. Well, not really. I am a great nanny and I love it. My boss Carol was announcing the day’s activities. There were the normal ones such as have the kids get dressed, do their chores, and so on. That day she also asked us to go to Walmart to pick up some things for her. And she requested that we walk to Walmart so that the kids didn’t sit around all day. I smiled and agreed. It sounded fun to me. Carol left to go to work. The kids were still asleep. When they woke up, I fed them and began the morning routine. Usually, they incessantly ask “What are we gonna do today?” and this morning, I already had an answer. “Well,” I replied “We are going to walk to Walmart to get some things for your mom” I excitedly answered. “Won’t that be fun?”

As though I was giving them a choice, they all promptly answered.

Abby, always the polite princess: “No thanks Kirs.”

Michael: “Nooooo. I don’t want to! I hate walking!”

Chris: “THERE IS NO WAY YOU ARE MAKING ME WALK THERE! I’LL STAY HOME!!”

I happen to be very patient. I listened to them complain until they all figured out that I was not kidding and staying home by themselves wasn’t an option. They got their shoes on and we headed out the door. What was an absolutely beautiful California day suddenly turned into

“OH my gosh it is sooooooo hot today!”

Before we got to the end of the driveway I heard

“Did you bring a snack?”

“I am sooooooo thirsty!!”

We began the treacherous walk to Walmart. They seemed to have forgotten that they didn’t want to be walking to Walmart. Abby was skipping. Michael was chasing birds. Chris was telling me about his quest to win his latest DS game. But all of the sudden things went very wrong.

The five minute walk was too much for Chris to handle. He saw a dead rabbit in the bushes which started a fit of hysterics.

“OH MY GOSH! I MIGHT AS WELL BE THAT DEAD RABBIT. MY ARM IS PROBABLY GOING TO FALL OFF BEFORE WE GET THERE. YEP IT IS I CAN FEEL IT. ITS JUST COMING OFF RIGHT NOW. AND NOW I CAN’T EVEN SEE OUT OF ONE EYE. OH MY GOSH I AM GOING BLIND. I KNEW THIS WAS THE WORST IDEA. WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME COME ON THIS STUPID WALK?!”

He sat down on the sidewalk. After a few minutes, I convinced my half blind friend that I would guide him to Walmart. He agreed and we continued on the other five minutes of our journey. Once inside Walmart, there was almost another riot when I explained that they could look on the toy aisles but they couldn’t buy anything. We got the things on Carol’s shopping list and went to the checkout. I had three tired (cuz it was such a long walk…) and uncooperative children, one of which was still half blind and about to loose a limb. Michael grabbed a box of Swedish fish from the checkout aisle. “Can we all share these please?” I said “If I get you guys that box of Swedish fish do you promise to share them nicely and walk all the way home with no complaining?”

“YES!” They agreed.

So that happens to be the best 99 cents I ever spent. Not only did the kids practically float home with no complaining, but Chris was miraculously cured of his blindness.

To say the least, Puff has some

interesting dining habits. When he was little, he would only eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches if they were dipped in ranch dressing. But what little kid doesn't like ranch dressing? Then he moved onto the lovely concoction of Root Beer with parmesan cheese delicately floating on the top. We teased him about this for a long time. It is disgusting. After a while, he begged and begged for us to give it up.

"I don't do stuff like that anymore!"

As a courtesy we dropped the topic. No more reminiscing about the days of PB&J w/ ranch and parmesan Root Beer. We dropped it until I caught him red-handed at the dinner table slipping back into his old habits.

You may ask what I caught Puff eating? Well, just a vanilla ice cream cone

with a few drizzles of

A-1 Steak Sauce.

He will never hear the end of it now!

My friend Sam

brought an abundance of starfruit to school yesterday. I brought one home to share with my roomies.
It is definately the cutest fruit.

Mustaches and Games

Family mustache photo. Kenz is wearing MM's left red cowboy boot. I am pulling off MM's right cowboy boot. What and attractive family portrait.

Roomie Suzanne

Me

Heath

We had mexican food for dinner, so naturally we spoke spanish and drew mustaches on each other. It's totally normal, so don't worry.

Then we played Oh Well and for once, I didn't come in last place!

Matt (it's Kenz's cousin)

MM Pulling them off!

Suzanne, Me and Kenz. Cute roomies.

Electric Beach and Waikiki

Electric Beach is on the west side of Oahu across the street from a power plant. The plant sends hot water out through huge pipes under the ocean. As a result, the water is alot warmer which attracts lots and lots of tropical fish.

In a devestating turn of events, Kenz had to work and didn't get to come. Me, MM, Pocahontas, Mustapha, Heath, Matt, Nate, Cowdrey, and some other people snorkeled and played in the ocean. Some of us played football. Some of us read. Some of us laid out and listened to music. And one of us wore inappropriately short, tight green euro trunks.

It was a beautiful day.

Me and Pocahontas enjoying the sun.

The beautiful sunset.

After the beach, we went to Waikiki because Mustapha and Heath had never been. We looked beachy and unattractive but it was so much fun. We went to one of my favorite restuarants, The Cheesecake Factory.

MM, Me and Pocahontas

After dinner, we went to Wal-Mart. When you live in Hawaii without a car, going to Wal-Mart is a coveted event. Infrequent visits mean that you have a long shopping list when you actually get to go. We had a full car and by the time we had made all our purchases and loaded them in the car, the car was full. Poor Matt was buried in the back with all of our stuff. But he was a trooper.

On the way home, we went to Laniakea beach to visit the sea turtles.

The day Tennis got Rained Out

Tennis the other night was interesting. First, MM served the ball and it went flying over and hit my hair. It dislodged a piece of my ponytail. We played for a while and then it started raining. I announced that it was unsafe to play tennis when the courts are wet because they get slippery.

So we packed up to leave the courts.

Leave it to me to not listen to my own advice, because when we were about to walk out the gate, I totally slipped and fell flat on my back.

That is the sure fire way to find out who your friends are. Friends will help you up, good friends will giggle and then help you up and best friends just laugh uncontrollably until someone snorts. Thank you Kenz and MM for starting a fit of laughter for ever and ever.

And then helping me up.

I am amazed I still have any friends.

For a few days this week, I was a

SLAVE!!

For my class, "Conventions and Meeting Planning" we had to volunteer at the Senior Citizen Expo. 3 Days and 20 hours of volunteering. The first day, my classmates and I had a never ending task. The man in charge, Mike wanted his face to be on the front of all the programs. The printing company had printed them out of order so we had to re-order the pages of 30,000 programs. Pull out the middle of each and every program and put the middle pages onto the front.

Since I am always in a good mood, I didn't really mind helping out. Some of my classmates were not so happy about it. I started a competition to see who could do a stack of 250 the fastest. Of course I won, and I am thinking of changing my profession to a professional newspaper re-orderer.

Once upon a time

Pocahontas was so tired she fell fast asleep on the kitchen counter.

Kissing Rugby

For FHE we played kissing rugby. Here are the hilarious rules: Pocahontas sits on the ground in the middle of the room. The boys are lined up on one side and the girls on the other. When your number is called, you run to the middle. Luke is trying to kiss Pocahontas before Ming kisses Luke. I laughed so hard.
